A member asked:

Gynechologist told me there is an erosion on the cervix by looking and examining it. i had pap in august the came nilm. she also told me pap isnt 100accurate in detecting dysplasia as colposcopy is needed. the last year pap and colposcopy showed cin1?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

"NILM" pap smear: NILM represents that no intra-epithelial lesions are present. A colposcopy is not generally done unless abnormal cells are present on a pap smear, and a biopsy may be necessary to confirm the degree of abnormality present. Cervial erosion may cause spotting and light bleeding especially after sex, indicating chronic inflammation, but does not require colposcopy.
