See a doctor: To truly find out if you have endometriosis you need to go see a physician. This isn't a diagnosis that you can make on your own. However, the symptoms you should look for are painful periods, painful intercourse, and sometimes excessive bleeding.

See your GYN: Diagnosis can be difficult, and endometriosis can still be present with a normal ultrasound, cat scan, and MRI scan. Your gyn can help you decide if laparoscopy is advisable. Most patients with endometriosis will eventually get pregnant, but it may take much longer than average or require treatment by an infertility specialist.

Laparoscopy only: The diagnosis of endometriosis is only able to be confirmed by direct visualization (and ideally excisional biopsy) using a minimally invasive outpatient surgical technique known as laparoscopy. This can be done with minimal recovery and downtime. Endometriosis is not detectable by pelvic exam, pap smear, cat scan, mri, or ultrasound. Most women with endometriosis, properly treated, can have kids.
