Hi, i have been on xanax .5 mg. 3x a day for 9 years. my dr just said he is weaning me off of them in 6 weeks time. to cut my pills in half for 3 weeks and then take the half every other day for 3 weeks then stop. take lexapro while doing this help?

WEANING ALPRAZOLAM: YOU HAVE BEEN ON THIS DOSE X9 YEARS. IN MY PRACTICE I WEAN REALLY SLOWLY - 1/2 TAB EVERY 3-4 WEEKS. BENZODIAZEPINE WITHDRAWAL IS FOTEN MORE OF A PROBLEM TO TREAT THAN AN OPIOID WITHDRAWAL. SO I GO SLOW AND LET THE BODY ADJUST TO THE DECREASE.
