Yes: Abnormal nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD+) metabolism causes a wide spectrum of diseases. A recent study (Cell Rep. 2019;26:969-983) shows that postpartum NAD+ homeostasis is depressed. By restoring NAD+ homeostasis, maternal nicotinamide riboside (NR) supplementation during lactation enhances postpartum weight loss, as well as juvenile development and adult neurogenesis in the offspring.
