A member asked:

Is it possible to be incorrectly diagnosed as a type 1 diabetic when in fact its perhaps type 2 treated with insulin? i know its common the other way around but if its perhaps possible id like to know how to test for that.

Talk to your DR: The major difference between Type 1 and Type 2 is in the natural production of Insulin. Type 1 Diabetics cannot produce sufficient Insulin because of autoimmune destruction of pancreas cells. Type 2 diabetics produce Insulin, but their body has developed resistance to it due to obesity. A blood test for insulin would presumably distinguish between the two, but treatment would not change.
