Trauma vs meds: A nail that is turning blue or black from localized trauma will eventually fall off and regrow over 6-9 months. You can consult a podiatrist if it looks like the nail is adhering unevenly or not growing back. If you are taking Minocycline or antimalarials, your toenails and fingernails can develop blue areas. This reaction stops occurring when the med is discontinued.
