I have had a peritonsillar abscess two times in the past two years. should i get a tonsillectomy? my ent told me it was ultimately up to me and i am conflicted. what do you recommend i do?

The tonsils supposedly are like command centers of immunity of the mouth with the white cells concentrated there that is fighting infections in the mouth and neck area. The ENT surgeon probably does not think it would make any difference. I think you would be better served by improved oral hygiene since we all have germs in our mouth and if you smoke stop. The tonsils are to help fight infections.
