A member asked:

Otologist (to whom my regular ent referred me) noticed some of my tonsils were not removed despite having a tonsillectomy 6 mo ago. is this normal?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

RESIDUAL TONSILS: Depends on the technique used. generally, tonsilectomy removes the tonsils completes. If the surgeon just debulk them or reduce them, you will see some residual tissue. The residual tonsil tissue may become infected or inflamed in the future and require additional surgery. If you had surgery for obstruction, then I don't expect any further problems with sleep apnea or obstruction. Why Otologist?
