Nausea after tonsillectomy? i had my tonsils removed four days ago on monday but today i have been very nauseous and have vomited three times. my doctor told me no anti-nausea medicine... what other approaches can i take?

Nausea : Nausea after surgery can be common. At his point, the most common cause would be the narcotic pain medicine. 4 days after surgery is often the peak of the pain (3-4 days). Maybe you can get the med changes or get an antinausea medicine. Definitely have to make sure that the nausea is not from swallowed blood from the open wounds.

Please : Please make sure you are not spitting up or swallowing blood as this too can make you nauseous and should be brought to the attention of your surgeon. Also, the pain medicine you are taking also can cause nausea, and you may be better off trying to just use acetaminophen. Food may also help with the nausea and reflux, especially if you are having trouble eating. Finally, zofran (ondansetron) - a anti nausea medicine, is one I have used after tonsillectomy and works in relieving postoperative nausea and vomiting. Good luck.
