Long term: Long term effects are less well studied. Short term benefits are several and well known. Feedings and speech are among areas of improvement.

Frenectomy: Just the opposite. There is a long term benefit. Children that are tongue tied don't have proper tongue position which results in abnormal upper jaw development. abnormal upper jaw development results in crossbites, speech aberrations, impacted upper canines, mouth breathing, sleep apnea, etc. Improved breast feeding is only one of the benefits of a frenectomy, Askan Orthodontist.
