82yr taking megestrol 40mg for 2-mos 4xday due to not eating. he has dementia thinks he was eating but not. after uc&er visits he was admitted to hospital. docs put him on this med & eating again. last 2wks weakness&shortofbreath. cause be this med?

Yes: Megestrol can cause fluid retention, shortness of breath and weakness. Other contributing factors or conditions cannot be ruled out as being unknown. If appetite is preserved, likely not needed as cueing and reminders may suffice.
