Gout: Have you had gout before? I assume the painful toe is not from an injury. This may well be gout. Gangrene is highly unlikely in the absence of poorly controlled diabetes or heavy smoking history, both of which are associated with severe peripheral vascular disease, I recommend that you be evaluated by your physician for diagnosis and treatment. Appropriate testing will be done.
