Big toe stiff: You might have degenerative joint disease (wear and tear of the joint) it might be related to an old injury. That might cause stiffness and swelling in the big toe joint. Go to the podiatrist and have the toe x-ray to evaluate the condition of the joint and to see what additional treatment you might need.
