While your md can diagnose pain in your TMJ muscles, a prosthodontist can evaluate the signs of bruxism on your teeth, make the diagnosis, order the sleep study and work with the sleep centers findings to provide you with necessary orthodontic appliances to prevent damage to your TMJ & teeth while bruxing.

Either: Either can diagnose the condition. There are dentists who are proficient in sleep problems, but your insurance will probably act sooner with less question with your md. Ideally, they should work together.
