Sleep apnea: Hello. If the dentist can order a sleep study, then he/she can diagnose sleep apnea. Your dentist may be suspicious because of your oral anatomy, past medical history, your symptoms and weight. A dental appliance may be helpful and even curative once the diagnosis is made.

Sleep study.: Certain qualities of the oral cavity and pharynx might make sleep apnea more likely, but the diagnosis still rests on findings during a formal sleep study.
