Water poisoning: Water poisoning occurs because the overload of water dangerously decreases your electrolytes, especially sodium. Each person will have a different point at which this occurs based on BMI, exercise, electrolyte intake and overall health. Symptoms of water intoxication typically start appearing after you consume more than 3 to 4 L of water in a few hours. Daily: Drink 3.7 L (male), 2.7 L (female)
