Nothing by itself: One low phosphorus reading means nothing by itself. it should be rechecked in 4 weeks. Symptoms of hypophosphatemia occur only when the phosphate level in blood becomes very low for a while. Muscle weakness can develop. In mild chronic hypophosphatemia, the bones can weaken, resulting in bone pain and fractures. People may also lose their appetite.
