Depends on health: Healthy individuals are frequently started at 100 mcg of levothyroxine. Don't use armour thyroid. Less healthy individuals might be started at 50 mcg . The level is then checked every 6 to 8 weeks, as it takes quite a while to make a change, and stabilize. The medication is increased by 50 to 100 mcg at a time . Levothyroxine should be taken on an empty stomach, 1 hour before or 2 after a meal.

T4 0.7-0.8 mg/lb/day: However, if you had the "complete" thyroidectomy for thyroid cancer the endocrinologist (yes you should see a thyroid expert) will want a higher dose. Go to the american thyroid association website.
