Xray advised: Severe pain, bruising, and swelling are suggestive of a fracture, however an Xray will be needed to clearly diagnose a fracture or dislocation. Most Urgent Care centers have an Xray readily available, and can assist in treatment. In the meantime, I would advise buddy taping (taping the injured toe to an adjacent toe, which acts as a splint), Tylenol/Ibuprofen, icing, elevation, and rest.
