If his second kidney is having difficulty, the Dr may change medications or prescribe a specific diet to keep the damage to a minimum. Make sure his diabetes is being well controlled. Test 4-5 times daily and adjust meds and diet according to results.

Needs assessment: He needs to be assessed by his doc. Many times blood pressure is reactive or secondary to other conditions and thorough workup is needed. Best would be through his doc to have continuity of care and connect to his preexistent issues.
