Yes and no: The downside of a medical boot is that it might cause the muscles and joints in your foot to weaken, especially if worn for a long time. It's also bulky and might be expensive if your insurance doesn't cover it. It might take a long time to get to see a provider and get the boot prescribed. If tape works, then it's unlikely that a boot will work better.

Sprain injury: The treatment you have tried is compression of the tissues and helps - also elevation, ice for 20 min every 1-2 hrs and wearing a wrap first before a boot which can affect your ankle - you may not need it. OTC gels with capsaicin/voltaren help too
