A member asked:

Today i had bright red blood wrapped over my stool, looked like clots/red mucus. i went to the er but found nothing from rectal exam. they referred me to a gastroenterologist if it persisted. does this type of bleeding sound like hemorrhoids?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Maybe: Bright red blood is evidence it came from near the outlet. A crack or fissure in the outlet, often from dry ,bulky or rapid stool emptying. These self heal over time if stools are kept soft. Hemorrhoids are a possibility, but less likely unless you have been pregnant. The higher up the source the darker red to plum colored the blood would be.Try a stool softener for a while.
