GERD/Heartburn: Heartburn can be caused by acidic stomach contents backing up into your esophagus. If this happens 2 or more times per week it is called GERD (Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease). Lifestyle changes can ease the symptoms: drink more water, eat smaller meals, avoid trigger foods including fats/hot sauce/coffee) lose weight, stop smoking, sleep with head elevated. A Dr can prescribe meds.

Burning: You are most likely experiencing hyperacidity causing some inflammation of the stomach lining and esophagus with a component of reflux. Avoid caffeine, alcohol, nicotine, aspirin and anti-inflammatory medications like ibuprofen. Avoid spicy or oily foods. Eat smaller portions several times a day. For prompt relief take famotidine as directed. You can also take liquid antacid. See MD as needed.
