What is a suitable supplement/multivitamin for my 13 year old daughter?

Many available: There is no real need for vitamins in most people with balanced diets. Menstruating young women can benefit from taking a regular iron preparation which can be found in some multivitamins. The choice is yours. I often test teen girls in the office for their blood count since anemia from iron deficiency is a silent but real problem.

Vitamin: I agree with Dr. Ferguson. If your daughter has a balanced diet there is a good chance that she doesn't need a multiple vitamin. But Dr. Ferguson made a good point about getting checked for anemia.

Many good choices: Sadly at least 95% of Americans are deficient in some vitamins and minerals so I believe (as does the AMA) that everyone should take a good multivit. as an insurance policy. My favorite Multivit. is O.N.E. Multivitamin by Pure Encapsulations but there are other good choices. It doesn't have iron so I agree test her and add iron if needed.
