Diet: First thing is to check your diet. When do you stop eating at end of day, alcohol use, other sources of sugar? Check liver and kidney function with blood tests. May want to eat protein prior to bed.

Review their diet...: Blood sugar 5.5 - 5.8 mmol/L is considered pre-diabetic, which is probably why One is on metformin. And the 6.8mmol/L is also within the range of Normal/Pre-Diabetic range of 3.9- 7.0 mmol/L (70-125mg/dl). There is no cause for alarm at this point, but One should review their diet in case high glycemic index foods are being consumed. Best to check with the Prescribing Doctor.
