HPV testing: Having abnormal cells on pap smear can mean many things. Because of the speed at which these cells may progress, the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ACOG) usually recommends that a Pap smear be repeated within 12 months. However, in your age group, doing an immediate HPV test can also be helpful as it gives more information about the cause of those atypical cells.

Do not worry: Atypical cells are not a cause of immediate concern. Do follow your doctor's advice about follow-up PAP tests. Get HPV vaccination to prevent infection with other HPV strains, even if you have infection with one strain. Wish you good health!
