A member asked:

I have scratched an open wound on the back of my neck to the point that the tissue remaining in the center is stark white and full of porous little holes and it stings constantly. also this wound emits very little to no blood even when scratched.

Stop scratching: Wounds heal by creating pink granulation tissue to fill in the defect. Constant scratching can disturb this new growth and result in a would which does not heal. Open wounds are also susceptible to infection. Cover the wound with antibiotic ointment and a bandage. Take Benadryl, claritin or zyrtec if it is too itchy. wear a glove or other hand covering to remind you not to scratch.
