Ankle edema: This is a sign that you're either retaining fluid and/or your leg vein valves are somewhat incompetent in preventing venous blood to back up down the leg. You may have some varicose veins or a family history of them. If you note fluid buildup elsewhere(fingers,around eyes) you are retaining fluid. Wear elastic stockings for vein problems. Reduce salt intake for fluid retention &?see MD for tests
