A member asked:

A week ago i woke up with my armpit lymph node very swollen (golf ball sized), slightly painful, but moveable. it has gotten slightly smaller and is no longer painful, but it has stopped shrinking. do i need to see a doctor?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Doctor can examine: Lumps in the armpit of an adult can be due to ingrown hairs or blocked oil (sebaceous) glands. Occasionally, they are blocked pores, filling up with dead skin cells. If a lump hurts, it may be infected and would need antibiotics or be opened by a doctor, depending on how it looks. Lumps deeper in the armpit may be enlarged lymph nodes, which can be infection of some kind, or more rarely cancer.
