A member asked:

I was told i have 2 tiny sclerotia lesions on my spine. getting a bone scan soon. can these be osteomyelitis from a very resent knee replacement 4 months ago?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Nonspecific finding : Sclerotic lesions on a radiograph are areas of increased bone density and are very nonspecific findings. The typical osteomyelitis is not diagnosed radiographically by simple sclerosis. A bone scan reveals evidence of active bone turnover and therefore may suggest an active process such as injection. Taken in isolation, a small sclerotic lesion not likely to indicate osteomyelitis.
