A member asked:

I would like to visit my 83 year old mother in st. louis at some point soon (in may, if possible). if i am confident neither her nor i are sick with covid-19, would it be putting her at any significant risk to visit her, assuming i am careful when i leave

With caution: Keeping distance and time limiting visits, wearing mask, travel ideally in personal car. Test if you can, as many individuals develop an asymptomatic form of the infection. Make sure you study first local regulations and/or institutional that may still restrict such visits.

Mode of Transport?: Are you flying or driving? If you will be traveling in a contained space with other people with recirculating air , that might expose you to virus. Will you be operating your own vehicle? Is your mother in a nursing home (which might not allow visitors during pandemic) or does she live independently? Would you be practicing social distancing throughout. Answer depends on responses to these quest
