RICE: Arthritis is usually caused due to an inflammation of the joint. You can calm this inflammation down with rest, ice, compression & elevation. Please consult your doctor to get to the root of your arthritis. Remember that avoiding what causes the arthritis is always the best solution.

Sometimes: Hand arthritis is difficult to manage without medications. And you need to be careful about the types of meds you take and for how long. Sometimes modalities can help, such as a paraffin bath, which can be provided to you by a therapist. If you see a physiatrist, they may be able to provide some help.

Topical medication: Voltaren (diclofenac) gel and PENNSAID are two drugs that are applied topically to the site of pain. Both work fairly well.
