SEE DR IMMEDIATELY: Go to the Emergency Room ASAP! Rusty Nails may contain the bacteria Clostridium Tetani. If this bacterium infects your skin it can release a toxin which can impair the nerves that control your muscles. This can cause muscle stiffness, spasms and ultimately death. Since your tetanus vacc is past due, and the area red and swollen, there is a good chance that you have an infection- Tetanus or other.
