A member asked:

Is bactrim effective for impetigo? what if impetigo is caused by strep, since bactrim doesn't cover that? i've been on doxy for 4 days and impetigo is still spreading, so doc switched me to bactrim. is this the right choice? are there bad side effect

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Not for strep: Bactrim is a commonly used drug that is safe for people not allergic to it. Some can develop a sun exposure related transient rash. Bactrim is commonly used if the impetigo is thought to be from MRSA staph.
