A member asked:

We are 70. no lung problems. have had flu vaccine. is it necessary to have pneumonia vaccine?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Seniors do 2 of them: We have 2 types of pneumococcal pneumonia vaccines in the US. Babies and toddlers are routinely given pneumonia vaccines. Anyone who has bad lung disease or has a weakened immune system may get a pneumonia vaccine. Healthy, non-smoking, young or middle-aged adults may not see benefit from a pneumonia vaccine. However, for older or elderly persons, both vaccines are needed again.
