No: The pneumonia vaccine helps prevent infection due to a bacteria called pneumococcus. Swine flu is caused by a particular strain of the influenza virus which is a different causative organism. Hence the pneumonia vaccine will not protect against swine flu. It is important for anyone with asthma or COPD to remain protected against both pneumococcus and influenza as they can cause significant illness.
