A member asked:

If the coronavirus kills by causing respiratory problems and pneumonia then why aren't they giving the pneumonia vaccine to everyone over 50 and anyone who has either an immune deficiency or an underlying medical problem?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Some basics: There are 2 vaccines that help develop antibody protection from different strains of a common cause of pneumonia. They have been offered to a variety of individuals for years & can be obtained out of pocket by anyone with the desire to get them. Insurers rarely cover these unless the supervisory groups recommend them, a process that requires years to develop.
