A member asked:

If you had pneumonia over 40 yrs ago am i now immune? recently had a stroke am over 70 or would it be good idea to get a pneumonia immunization ?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Yes: Don't assume you developed any lasting protection from that early pneumonia. Pneumonia is a generic term for a condition caused by many different germs. The pneumonia you had may have been triggered by a different germ than the shot is designed to help you avoid.Even if it was pneumococcal ,there many different strains & immunity to one would not help against another. The shot covers 13 strains.
