Theoretically...: See "Preventing COVID-19" on HealthTap website. Theoretically, virus could linger in air for a few hours, but that doesn't seem consistent with the fact that almost all transmission has been from close personal contact. Wearing an N95 mask protects you, but a surgical mask does not. However, if the sick person wears a surgical mask, that helps. Gloves help, hand washing helps more. Do both!

Yes: COVID-19 is an airborne transmitted virus. It can hang around in the air and masks provide minimal but some protection. Social distancing from an area or person with the disease is better to limit exposure. Gloves may help prevent pick up virus from surfaces.

Can be airborne.: If you inhale any particles thrown out into the air from sick person in 3 hours after the cough you get the infection. Masks acts as a barrier to prevent cough droplets going inside your nose. Gloves prevent the virus from the surfaces going to your airway in case you forget to wash your hand after touching surfaces and put your hand on your face.
