I've read articles on covid-19 with the quoted experts predicting millions of deaths in the usa from it, saying things like it will last 6 mo or more & that we will very soon end up like italy. how can they be so sure of that or is that speculation?

Different experts do have different opinions. Close to a million people ( more than 750,000) have died from Covid-19 in the US only. The number of deaths, worldwide is more than 4 million. Get vaccinated.

It's likely not true, I think we will overcome this pandemic in 2022 and Covid-19 virus will become more or less like flu virus. Besides vaccines, we also have drugs to treat Covid-19 virus which will be approved very soon.
