A member asked:

What could cause high bilirubin (2.1 (t)/0.4 (d)/1.7(i)) but low ast/alt (11/9)? i'm going to bring up the results with my dr but my appt isn't for a while and i'm just wondering if i should try to see her sooner or if it's something that can wait.

Bilirrubin: Hello. Yes, you can wait for your appointment. Nevertheless it is very important to determine why the indirect bilirrubin is elevated. This could be caused by liver, spleen or blood problems and needs further investigation.

Possibly,: One that comes to mind is Gilbert's Syndrome, can cause bilirubin elevation, with no liver enzyme elevation. Gilbert's syndrome (GS) is a mild liver disorder in which the liver does not properly process bilirubin. ... Diagnosis is based on higher levels of unconjugated bilirubin in the blood without either signs of other liver problems or red blood cell breakdown. Typically no treatment is needed.
