See Primary Care: A better evaluation (more thorough) is with one's primary care doctor. The "genital area" has many different parts, and pain or discomfort can be due to a variety of problems with any one or more of the different parts. Details matter. A person can explain the symptoms, how they began, what makes them better or worse, etc., and her doctor can help out.
