A member asked:

Can gas pain cause upper burning abdominal pain (below) ribs that can last for hours? i get it every day starting in the afternoon.worsens by evening. i only eat oatmeal in morning &nothing during the day because of it. definite glassiness in evening

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Burning discomfort: Burning discomfort in the upper abdomen is not characteristic of gas buildup but is consistent with gastritis(inflammation of the stomach lining) or peptic ulcer. Avoid alcohol, caffeine, nicotine, spicey and greasy foods, aspirin, anti-inflammatory medications like ibuprofen and naproxen. Take omeprazole or pepcid for 7-10 days. If not improved see a gastroenterologist for evaluation and testing.
