A member asked:

I have recently been diagnosed with hsv1 genitalia. i am with my husband for the last 5 and a half years and he is the only man i've had oral sex with. is there a chance that i got it from him. he hasn't been tested yet. how can he also be tested?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Unfortunately...: Husband with herpes1 can give herpes1 to his wife's mouth, genitals, etc., if his wife does not yet have herpes1. A person is not immune to herpes1 until she has caught herpes1, and likewise she is not immune to herpes2 unless she has caught herpes2. That means NOT having herpes1 earlier in life, makes the wife vulnerable to getting her first herpes1 wherever her husband's oral herpes attaches to.
