Basics: If the bleeding can be controlled with local pressure blood loss should be minimal. If the cut is deep enough that the surrounding skin opens exposing underlying fat/skin, is longer than 1-2 cm, or bleeding soaks through the pads, it will need stitches. Your call.

Bleeding vein: Veins are low pressure as opposed to high pressure arteries. Because of this, elevation and direct pressure on the bleeding area should stop the bleeding. Apply pressure directly for 10 minutes then wrap the area with a bandage or ace bandage. If the bleeding continues then you may need stitches.
