Doctor can recheck: Throat pain can be from strep throat, a cold or influenza (antibiotics usually not used), or from some other cause such as allergies, irritants, or acid reflux. Usually, a person sees a doctor if the sore throat is bothersome, recurrent, or doesn't go away quickly. If treatment for strep throat did not resolve the issue, one's doctor can recheck to see if something else is causing the sore throat.
