A member asked:

How dangerous (or not dangerous) is the new coronavirus, meaning what percentage people would just have mild cold symptoms and be fine in a week?

Hard to know: We are very early in exploring this new virus. Since most cases are in mainland China where little information has been shared and verified it may take time to discover. The data to date suggest a case fatality rate of 2-3 %, a number generated by taking the reported fatalities divided by the total number of cases. (2/12/20)

Too soon to tell.: So far, about 2-3% have died. This is less than the 7% who have died from the flu. It is far less contagious than measles. But it is a new form of a virus and surprises (good and/or bad) could be in store. Here is the first case report to be published in a journal about a family who got the new coronavirus giving data about transmission rates: https://tinyurl.com/t9vnwe4
