Yes: There are many causes to a vegetative state. Stroke is only one of them. In addition the stroke may be ischemic, i.e. Interruption of blood flow to an area of the brain (usually a small area in the brainstem) or hemorrhagic, i.e. Pressure on several areas of the brain from a large hemorrhage.
