A member asked:

I went to a doctor to take precautions and asked to begin post exposure prophylaxis, i was prescribed ranega when i look at the product information it says that it does not prevent hiv infection, is this treatment going to help me or not?

Ask the prescriber: Ranega appears to be a 3-combination HIV drug in S. Africa containing dolutegravir, lamivudine, and tenofovir. The WHO says adult PEP regimens are: tenofovir combined with either lamivudine (3TC) or emtricitabine (FTC). The WHO recommended third drug is ritonavir-boosted lopinavir (LPV/r). Looks like Ranega uses dolutegravir instead of lopinavir. One can ask the prescriber if that is ok.
