Esophageal cancer: Esophageal cancer has increased over the past 3 decades by 400%. With that said the number of cancers annually is in the 6000 to 7000 range annually. Specifically those with Barrett's esophagus have a 1 in 200 chance of developing esophageal cancer. White males are the most likely to develop the problem.

Visual appearance B: In Barrett's esophagus (also called Barrett's metaplasia), the normal pearly-white lining is replaced by a pink-red velvety lining made up by cells called specialized columnar cell. Point where the red tissue that lines the stomach (gastric mucosa) ends and the paler pink squamous esophageal mucosa begins sharply demarcates the junction between the stomach and the esophagus.
